Car Insurance price doubled in a year!

Hi All,
It's that dreaded time of year again for car insurance renewals especially with recent inflationary rises etc. My car insurance runs out at the end of September and I have been looking at quotes this morning and to my shock the cheapest quote I have had is £1800 which is double my previous years cost. I have been driving for 7 years, have 7 years NCD having never made a claim on any policy. I must mention that I got a speeding ticket (3 points & £100 fine) round about 6 months ago so I was expecting an increase but not £900! Also, in my first year of driving (7 years ago from now) my first insurer cancelled my policy this was the outcome of an ongoing debate between myself and the insurance company regarding a telematics box I had at the time that I believe was faulty but was not able to actually prove it. Unfortunately for me this now means I have to tick the box that asks if I have had insurance cancelled, voided, declined or special terms imposed on comparison websites (which I assume makes the quotes more expensive). I was wondering as this was now 7 years ago do I still need to declare this? Also, I know there are some sites like direct line that only ask "Have you had insurance voided, cancelled, declined or special terms imposed last 5 years?" - does anyone know of any others besides direct line? In addition to this if anyone has any tips for cheaper insurance quotes they would be much appreciated!

The cancellation question normally says "Have you EVER had insurance cancelled" so unfortunately it's one with you for life and a reason why it's best to do everything you can to avoid it happening.Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0

and my question is, if you incur a speeding ticket you are generally offered a speed awareness course which costs about the same as the fine but no points on the licence.
Were you not offered one?
(However I think it depends on just how much over the speed limit you were travelling- maybe it was an automatic fine)Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

As you said at the end there is a cutoff to be eligible for the course and it can only be taken once every 3 years, OP may well have been speeding by more than the cutoff or have already taken the speed awareness.Katiehound said:and my question is, if you incur a speeding ticket you are generally offered a speed awareness course which costs about the same as the fine but no points on the licence.

Either way it doesn’t help the OP now, all they can do is shop round and try not to create any further risk markers for insurance.1
