Sons new UC claim

My son has been off sick from work for 28 weeks so has finished receiving his ssp and has made a claim for uc as he is not entitled to ESA. What he wanted to know is, will he be entitled to a payment if he received his last ssp payment on the first day he made a claim for uc?

Thanks for reading

Yes, but it will be counted as earnings and he will receive a deduction from UC of 55% of the SSP (unless he has children, then a certain amount will be ignored before deductions start).  How much UC he recieves will depend on his situation - partner, children, renting or not, etc.

It would have been better to make the claim the day after his last SSP payment but it sounds like it's too late for that now.
