I think a car that's moving between the UK and NI has an inherent risk. Easy target for clone or for it to have been stolen in the past, that's why it's more.

I don’t think the car will be determined as being an NI by the number plate alone i.e. changing the number plate won’t get around the issue.
It used to be that there were NI versions of registration documents, such as a V5C NI - don’t know if these still exist or not as my current car was first registered in England.
I suspect (but don’t know for sure) that what has happened is that following Brexit, there are specific rules which need to be followed around transferring vehicles between NI and GB and it’s likely that these haven’t been followed properly, with it being this that is triggering the NI marker on the car.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

Any vehicle is as easy a target for cloning/stealing as any other vehicle, it doesn’t matter as to where it might have been registered at one point in its life.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
I really am confused by this thread and the apparent issue that has been highlighted by the NI number plate.
NI plates are often marketed by the companies that sell non-standard plates as a good "dateless" option, like this:

Is the issue purely to do with the plate or was the car actually an NI car in the past which creates some more complex issue?0 -
Before the current fashion for personalised plates, people would often get a NI plate as a cheap way of being a bit different. As a consequence, they got a bit of a 'chavvy' image with some people, and the dealers may just be reflecting the market, where these numbers are thought to be less desirable. Hard to see this making a huge difference, though. If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0

Hi All thanks for your answers, the car had NI number plates on, although we did not know and was led to believe they were private plates, we decided to go back to electric only having the car for a short time, however when we tried to px it will well known companies some would not accept it as px as it had NI number plates on, or reduced the amount offererd for PX because of this. WBAC offered over two grand less then what we eventually managed to PX it for, someone advised we could get private number plates for it and no one would be none the wiser. which we could of done and believed would of done if it become an absolute nightmare to get rid off
When we first got the car from a main local dealer we did question about the plates being different the salesman advised us they were private plates, we even had a chat about what they could mean, so he knew that we did not know the difference and at that time he should of advised us that it was from NI.
We did PX it over the weekend and have gone electric, and feel we may of lost a little more than we should have due to the plates being NI number plate.
Thank you all
