there seems to be a lot of companies offering this and I have checked a couple which say I am eligible - I no longer work but have savings - I don't know which company to contact as I don't want to be constantly pestered after enquiring if I find out I have to contribute money I can't afford - any suggestions anyone

I can suggest two places to start:
    1. Your local council.
    2. Your energy supplier.
If neither of those can help, then you need to look further afield.

  • I'm a bit concerned that the main beneficiaries of this scheme are the installers and you may not get the best quality of workmanship or after-sales service.

All these government backed schemes incur a "snouts in trough" premium. The Green Deal was probably one of the worst judging by the number of cold calls everyone was receiving. And you are probably right about quality of work and after-sales service. Loft was insulated quite a few years back under one of the ECO schemes. The insulation was just rolled out over the top of what ever crap was up there. No real attempt was made to get the insulation right up to the eves.. As for the cavity wall insulation - I've had a poke around with a small camera, and in places, the cavity is only half full. Too late to get anything done under the CIGA guarantee.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

I'm not eligible through either as I don't claim any benefits but when you go on the companies advertising free solar panels etc it says I'm eligible because I don't work....mmmm... just don't want to be badgered if I'm not

You say you don't claim benefits. Are you eligible for them? Or are you living in social housing? If neither applies, you might not qualify.
