Recieved a bill from EON for energy been paying scottish power
Not sure if this is the right thread please redirect me if so. I moved into a rented property over a year ago, the company renting the property on behalf of the landlord only told be about scottish power for gas. A year later eon say they also supply the property wiyh gas and electric, my details were passed on by the letting agency, and now i owe a huge bill in the thousands. I understand I used the energy but am frustrated i never knew and was told. Any ideas on my next steps

It's possible that Scottish Power supply your gas and EON your electricity. It's also possible that EON supply both gas and electricity. It's unlikely that both suppliers supply you with gas, unless the property was once two separate properties and you have two separate gas meters.Have Scottish Power been sending you bills? Does the meter serial number on the bill match the one on the actual meter?Has EON now sent you a bill? Do the serial number(s) on the EON bill match your meter(s)?On the bills, are the meter readings correct?N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Then compare your bills etc. Works out if anything is a duplicate and go from there
Once you know who suiplies you you can find out by asking them when you started being supplied by them etc0 -

Without this kind of information, its very hard for anyone to offer sound advice.

Never trust an LL or LA to set up your energy accounts. Your bill, your responsibility. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Unfortunately if you didn't read the meter yourself when you took possession you may be now be paying for previous use by others. It's not unknown for an outgoing tenant to give their supplier a final reading that's too low, or a landlord / letting agent not paying the suppliers during a void period.Ask your supplier for a payment plan (typically 12 months) if you will have difficulty paying in one go.1
