Hoover H-Dry 100 Vented Tumble Dryer

Hello all,

We bought this tumble dryer recently as our old one went wrong.

The old one ran for about 50 minutes and dried clothes perfectly fine, specifically did not roll sheets into a ball.

I've tried various settings on this machine, the 'shirts' setting seems to indicate that it doesn't tangle clothes.

My query is according to the display it is going to run for 3 hours on a half load and it does roll sheets into a ball.
I've searched on line for this problem and one reply was that "modern machines do roll sheets into a ball, you just have to keep on opening the door to unroll them" this was a technical reply to the question from the manufacture.

Anyone else heard or experienced such a thing.

My old old Creda vented dryer used to go clockwise for a time and then reverse anticlockwise for a similar time.  Never balled anything.

A more modern heat pump from Panasonic went one direction only and balled sheets.

My current Miele hp dryer does reverse but not for as long as it goes normal direction;  so most drying is in one direction.  On gentle tumble it balls sheets... on normal (hotter) it seems to not ball, so I use that when I remember.  I haven't worked out if the Normal mode works different on the forward/revers mark:space ratio that might mean it untangles an item that is starting to tangle.
The machine senses load weight and dampness, so doesn't have a 'half load' feature.

Check out if your machine reverses the drum or not.

It does change direction every few minutes on the "shirts" setting which is supposed to be anti tangle  but still, balls the sheets. After an hour of drying they were still damp.

    Why vented vs a condesnser?
A heat pump condenser will cost about half as much to run, and you won't have to vent it out the wall (obvs).
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Shirt setting will be lower heat to prevent creasing.

Is it a 'sensor' type, Linda? If so, the duration time indicated at the start will likely tumble as the clothes dry, and not be the actual time to be taken.

We already had the vent fitted to the outside wall from the previous machine.

I think it might do that, to be honest, I'm still getting used to the settings. You know how it is, 15 settings and you use 2.

    Ha-ha, yup!
Our old Bosch is 'sensor', and comes up with a typical 2 hour summat minutes when set to 'very dry'. If I open the door to check the contents with only 30 minutes to go, it'll revert to the 2+ hour again when I close the door. That soon drops down, tho', as it senses there's little drying still to be done.
Mind you, it reverses lots, so clothes and sheets don't tend to be tangled.

I'll have to keep playing with the settings. The sheets are balling perfectly. Which is a shame as it is a lovely big drum so they could easily just drop down to stay untangled.
