Travel from England to Scotland

The budgetary aspect sounds as though it would ruin what should be one of the best holidays to the best part of the UK ( IMHO----no, I'm not a Scot but I am deeply attached to the highlands and islands). I fly to Scotland, to whatever airport is central to the area we are covering for a particular holiday----including JGB's wonderful Barra's beach landing. And we love holidays in those beautiful old converted Scottish Castles.

It seems to me that if you can't afford the sleeper to get there in the first place, you might be better served by a holiday in the Cotswolds, Cornwall or Wales, which would be easier to get to----and your husband could probably drive there without too much risk to his back.
