Cross Border Working. Tax Credits

Options
Hi all,

Does anyone avail of Marriage credits, while living in NI & working in the ROI? Importantly my wife works in NI I'll be working in ROI.

I've read through Border people & revenue.ie and my understanding is that if I use tax credits to bring down my tax in the south providing that tax figure plus usc is in excess of my tax liability in the UK I'll be fine when it comes the the self assessment. If there is a shortfall I'll simply have to pay it.

Due to my wife having foreign income from an Irish tax perspective I believe I have to calculate the ratio of her gross income (taxable?) vs our total income. E.g. if foreign income is 15% of our total combined income that means we're entitled to 85% of the roi marriage credit. From memory I think this is €5325 x .85 = €4526.25.

Sharing tax thresholds is great and something the uk should embrace very useful for young families where one member has reduced their hours or is on maternity pay.
