How long does a seller have to wait .. item not paid for

A few days ago a buyer offered a price for an item which I had for sale.
Within a minute, I accepted the offer and the item was sold.
Now 4 days later the buyer hasn't paid for the item. Although I normally don't (no need usually) I did send an invoice.. basically £8 plus £3.49 postage.
is there a set time I must wait before i can cancel the item ?

If this is on Ebay it is 4 days. I never understand why buyers do not pay as soon as they have bought something.0

Because they didn't read the listing properly before buying and now realise it's wrong for various reasons,
Because they've decided they don't want to spend the money,
Because they've decided they no longer want it,
Because they're an idiot.
If it was something they genuinely wanted they'd commit to buy it.0 -
It should be 4 days exactly since it was bought that an option to cancel with buyer getting a defect should be available.
However, I corrected someone on a thread some months back about the 4 days restarting when an invoice is issued, and if I could find that thread I would apologise to them. I still get an unreasonably high percentage of non payers and recently I sent an invoice to one of them after a couple of days and that definitely seemed to extend the window before I could cancel the sale. I’ve never been brave enough to try sending another invoice, and now just leave it all alone and let eBay auto cancel after 4 days.OP look at the sale on your sold page, does it show the original date of sale or a later date?Non payers and people wanting to cancel after buying are still a huge problem for me.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. OP here .. thanks for your replies.
The morning after I wrote my first post here I noticed that the item had been paid for.
At least I know now for the future
