Hi

does anyone know who does car insurance which includes DOC?

I always go for fully comp which most of the time have had it but on checking my latest policy it turns out it didn’t.

Alternatively a policy which allows you to drive a car you don’t own? My car is going for an engine rebuild and I’m borrowing my brothers spare,

thanks

My current policy is with Lloyds and allows me to drive other vehicles which aren't owned by myself.

I've had policies with Aviva, admiral and quote me happy, all 3 has this...on assumption the other car is insured and owner given you permission.

*Edit* forgot to mention the above 3 only has 3rd party insurance coverage when driving someone else's insured car

It varies, even within the same insurer.

Some offer it only to over-25s (or anther age). Some insist the other car must be insured, some don't.

I'm with LV= and it covers the policy holder to drive other cars, third party only (as is usual) and named drivers aren't covered.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

Some other LV brands don't include DOC, so check policies carefully before buying if they look good value.

GA (an Aviva brand) do include it.

And then he would have fully comp on his car, DOC cover is normally third party only.

This can be very cheap. I added my brother in law for a day, a few years ago and it was around 1 quid.

That's standard. No insurer is going to provide comprehensive cover for a DOC extension. If they did, you could insure a ten year old Ford Fiesta, borrow a Rolls Royce or a Ferrari, write it off and your insurer would have to pay the owner its value.

A few premium/high net worth insurers like Hiscox and Chubb do offer comprehensive cover for driving other cars.  But they probably won't insurer a teen year old Fiesta in the first place - that's not really their target market. You have to be driving something not far short of a Ferrari - and often have their expensive home insurance - before they'll be interested.
