These identical cars - are going to be available in UK shortly - costing from £8k to £10k
Extras include DOORS (replacing standard ROPES)
classed as Quadricycles
it doesn't need any of the safety equipment manufacturers are mandated
to bundle into new passenger cars. So it has zero airbags, no crash
crumple zones, not a single electronic safety aid and not even anti-lock
brakes - a legal requirement for passenger cars since 2004.
They can be driven by 16 year olds on a moped licence (14 in Italy) !!
Deathtraps - I think is a good name for them
Even at maximum top speed of 28 mph
claimed range of up to 47 miles
If anything heavier than a breeze hits them - they will crumple away to nothing
What does the forum think ?

The Citroen AMI is on sale now and, I believe, classed as a car.

It's classed like a road-legal quad bike. The only difference is that this one has a (plastic) body on, so you're not exposed to the elements. If you think of it as a car replacement, it's a rubbish car.If you think of it as a moped replacement, it's great - carries 2 people, safer than a moped, and has weather protection. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.5 -
Fifth Gear recharged tested the Ami - I know you wouldn't normally drive one like VBH, but I still wouldn't want one

There are a couple of AMIs near us and they seem quite logical.0 -
Interesting video. 🤣🤣🤣😲
Notice in UK you need to be 17 and have full licence (or provisional like for a car)
So might as well have a proper car...that won't try and kill you at 10 mph !! 😲How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.43% of current retirement "pot" (as at end September 2024)1 -
They seem a good idea for what they're designed for - urban travel within city speed limits. They may be a bit flimsy compared to a proper car, but they are a lot safer than a moped or e-scooter and you are protected from the weather. I'd have one.0

Good idea, just not in most of the UK. A limit less than 30mph will now be fine in Welsh urban areas!
Saw a few Ami's running around European airport aprons this summer which is an ideal use.0 -
The problem is going to be "proper car" drivers - overestimating the speed of the Ami

One would be ideal for me to nip down the shops etc. as the roads round here are 30mph or 20mph.But the price!!!They are really a £3000 microcar, and seemed expensive when they were supposed to be £6000 as the original press release. The build quality is even more atrocious than my woeful Renault Nissan, which you could forgive in a £3000 car, but not in an £8000 one.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
