started and eBay return, they want me to return it to China!

I bought a cheap WiFi Camera a few weeks ago, and it's broken already so I started a return stating it's defective.
on the return page, I only get options to confirm that I have dispatched it to China or cancel the return.
the seller has also sent me a message offering 50% refund as a good will gesture!
I want to do neither of the above options, I want a full refund or a postage label
I have had this before but it was back in the days of PayPal payments and I just did a PayPal claim and got the money back
I've replied to the message offering 50% refund stating that I want a full refund or postage label but I doubt the recipient can even read English, how do I get eBay to step in?

I can't, there's no option. it does say I should be able to ask eBay to step in an help here but when I follow the instructions it just takes me to that page I've screenshotted in the 1st post with 3 options, send them a message, confirm i've returned it or cancel the return.
maybe I have to wait a few days?

it says UK seller in the listing on the picture, but description says business details are in China. it advertises next day delivery and it did come in 2 days so it must have come from a shipping centre in the UK
It does actually state buyer pays return p&p but I'm sure thats for change of mind returns. I clicked on return item as it's defective so I don't see why its so difficult to return this and have them pay for the p&p if they really want it back (which i doubt), and how ebay let these sorts of sellers try and pull stuff like this.

    Hello OP

You need to check the bit below the BIN button:

If that says United Kingdom then the seller should be providing a label for the item to go back to a UK address, if they won't then have a chat with eBay, they may ask you to wait 3 business days until the case can be escalated, they may put the case on hold and tell the seller to provide a label for a UK address or they may just refund you (which they should do eventually if the seller doesn't comply).

You are correct the buyer pays returns bit only refers to change of mind, with not as described the seller has to pay.

Yeap, eBay should cover you either by forcing a UK return or just refunding. You should be able to chat or call them from the help link at the top of most eBay pages. :)

A good few years back I bought an item from a seller advertised as in the UK and which, like your wi fi camera, arrived in a couple of days . Item was completely absolutely wrong, wrong colour, wrong style wrong size - the full Monty. Opened an SNAD and got the run around from seller who claimed that as they were outside the Uk they didn’t have to pay for returns. Eventually they sent me a label , but it was odd, it looked fake, had no tracking or anything and looked like it was non UK - and frankly if didn’t trust it. I phoned eBay explained it all and they refunded me immediately with no need to return the item.

I did get a couple of messages from seller afterwards asking where their item was and saying they would recall the refund if I hadn’t bought insurance to track it to delivery (?) I just ignored them.

  • well I've had a reply from the seller, they said I get to keep the camera (oh wow lucky me) and they will refund me in full. they also said that they hope I will leave them positive feedback as the matter has been resolved now, or not to leave feedback at all.
I will be leaving negative feedback explaining that they were trying it on with the "pay for postage to China or take the 50% refund" game
