Help please. Is this something from my bankruptcy 14 years ago?

  • I have had two letters from this company regarding old debts that were written off as part of a Debt Relief Order (mini bankruptcy) some years ago, my letters also state my maiden name and inform me that Capquest have taken over the payments.
I was starting to feel really anxious until I come here and read the comments.
Thank you for putting my mind at rest. These letters and any subsequent ones are for the bin 😌
  • Yes, I have two of these letters. I contacted the insolvency service, (can't post link), who provided me with a list of creditors and a letter confirming my discharge from bankruptcy. This gave me some peace of mind that the debt were included correctly.

  • I have received the same letter, which has come to my new address. So scary and upsetting. Thank goodness for this forum. Thank you everyone. Hoping ignoring it will mean no more letters.
  • I'm so glad I found this thread. Got the same letter too today and was having a panic!
  • I got the same letter yesterday too. So I sent them a subject access request. I too was bankrupt in 2012 and I’m certain this debt will have been before then as it’s not on my current credit file.

It was reassuring to see that I’m not alone in this.

Hi there - I came here today having received the exact same letter in the post, this morning!

I too have a historic bankruptcy and wondered if this related to a pre-bankruptcy debt.

I spoke with the credit card Company they claimed the debt was with - they told me the card number wasn't recognised on their system.

I was loth to ring the number in the letter, as The Bankruptcy Exchange doesn't show up on an Internet search - except in the USA, where it is not a debt collection agency. MBNA gave me a different number, for capquest, but the call went unanswered.

I plan to try again with capquest, then send a "prove it" letter to the PO box in Harlow, by registered mail.

Hoping the advice above holds true - will hate digging out the old bankruptcy papers, as I already have a hollow feeling in my stomach and racing heartbeat from the memories of that desperate time, all those years ago.
Wow, that’s interesting you’ve had exactly the same today. I think it must be an old thing from before the bankruptcy and I think I’m going to ignore it. The Bankruptcy Exchange seems to also be named The Insolvency Exchange (same address). I wondered about withholding my number and calling them?
Yup, I've just recieved the exact same letter as well, so came on here to ask this question but glad I checked first only to find out lot's of people seem to be getting them, although the only contact number on my letter is for the 'Bankruptcy Exchange' which sounded like a contrived made up name to scare people into possibly paying up.
  • Return to sender as not known at this address.
Failing that and as it's prior to your bankruptcy send a copy/picture to the OR. They can't legally chase the debt and it would also be illegal to pay only them because your other creditors in bankruptcy would miss out.
Best thing is do not converse or acknowledge receipt of the letter because that might liven the debt up and cancel any statute barring.

Once statute barred, always statute barred, nothing can change that.

You guys were all bankrupts so non of that limitation stuff applies to you, all your debts vested in your bankruptcy, non of you have anything to worry about.
