Kitchen prices!

Hi guys, few posts on this I know but looking for a more up to date view on things now that prices etc have changed drastically changed in the last few years.

Currently pricing kitchens and have had quotes from Wren and Howdens. To my and my builders surprise Howdens intial quote was actually more expensive than Wren. After reading posts on this forum I am aware that Howdens first price is always high and there is room to negotiate but how much realistically? My initial quote was just over 10k.

I am well aware of all the Wren horror stories but my partner has been suckered in by the fancy showroom and really likes the kitchen there. I didn’t enjoy the sales experience one bit at Wren and found the ales tactics very pushy with them asking for a 10% deposit before they would give me a pricing breakdown etc. ideally I won’t be going with them however their price seemed good compared to intial Howdens price.

I have sent my Howdens design to DIY kitchens however their handleless style is not quite the same as the Howdens. Are Howdens likely to consider a price match with this in mind?

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Just in the process of having a Howdens kitchen fitted plus a utility room as well. I wouldn't touch Wren as I have family members that all seemed to incur problems with their kitchens. Wrong items sent, damaged items not being replaced in a timely manner etc.

The fitter we are using has fitted 2 kitchens of people I know and has done an excellent job. I am quite impressed with the cabinet quality and finish and am just awaiting the quartz worktops to be fitted next week, (they have been templated).

There is room for negotiation but the discount structures have changed over the years. We have got between 35% - 45% on the various items. I did source my own handles as they seemed very expensive at Howdens and found identical ones online for less than half the price. They were fine about this.

    Good luck with your kitchen.

Howdens pricing structures used to be as clear as mud depending on the trades discount your builder could negotiate but is apparently more clear now. Wrens appears to be the same for everyone but each are open to negotiation and the arguments of price matching particularly if buying appliances as well. I have had two Wren kitchens installed without issues though had visited a second showroom to see all the alternatives available in a new range that first salesman seemed unaware of.

Howdens will price match DIY Kitchens.  It's a good tactic.

Did Wren seriously expect the OP to pay a deposit before being told what the cost of the kitchen would be?  That alone would be enough to have me straight out the door.

Yes, they wanted me to pay a deposit there and then after the initial design in order to secure the “sale” price! Bare in mind this design was rough and the appliances in the quote weren’t even discussed. I was asked if I wanted low, mid or top end appliances and the appliances selected were based on my choice of mid.

I order to receive a breakdown of costs/rough drawings, the deposit was required. I was shown a price on screen nothing more.
