It depends where you live as different areas have branches in different areas.wiganshale said:So, Can anyone recommend a bank with adequate counter staff (short queues), who don't require me to make an appointment with adequate ID , for simple queries.
Also, it depends what you mean by "simple queries"
Without knowing this information, I second the suggestion from someone else of First Direct as you can call them any time.0 -
Everyone is being forced on line for everything. But there is very little facility to pay a cheque for a large amount in other than physically. I think it is the banks that need to make sure that they can provide a decent service before removing branches. And ironically the recent cheques that I’ve had have been from government departments and banks, no choice to have payments made directly to an account.Your only chance to not be on line is to join one of the religions that don’t do digital🙄0

Every current account, even the ones with barely any cheque support like Monzo, allow you to deposit a cheque of any size by post. Kroo is the only exception I'm aware of (and they're working on it).

Lloyds Group (Lloyds, Halifax, BoS) allow you to pay in £5k cheques via their app.horsewithnoname said:there is very little facility to pay a cheque for a large amount in other than physically. Most banks allow you to pay cheques in at Post Offices.
Otherwise as @WillPS states there is always the postal option1 -
Chase is another exception. They don't accept cheques at all. Electronic transfer is the only means of paying money into a Chase account.WillPS said:horsewithnoname said:Everyone is being forced on line for everything.
