Virgin media 02 charge

Hi I pay a monthly direct debit for my virgin media. I also pay a separate charge for 02 phone of £33 which I don't use or don't want but am told by Virgin Media that it's a non negotiable part of the contract. I know someone with Virgin Media who doesn't pay it.
This seems like an unfair term to me but I could be wrong. Anything I can do short of switching provider? Thanks

You must have agreed to the phone contract element at some point, when was it? Not enough detail in your opening post.
  • Sorry honestly can't remember been with them for years. I'll certainly ask them what I agreed to and when...if anything ....when I contact them next.

Phone companies have many different combinations of deals that they advertise, and then yet more that individual customers may negotiate. Its very normal that one person's package includes a mobile element and anothers doesn't. You may be able to cancel the mobile, but then the broadband/landline/tv package may change price to make up for it.

Its Not inherently unfair to have different deals.

eg a few years ago, I negotiated a deal with Virgin retentions including a £10 mobile sim, which gave me a speed bump on the broadband through Volt. I could get the same sim elsewhere for £5 less. However treating the extra £5 as part of the broadband/tv package was still competitive as I could actually buy 1 speed lower and use the bump to get back to what I wanted.

Virgin used to give a free sim with broadband contracts, when they merged with 02 you paid 02 for a sim but got a discount off your broadband package - -as soon as your contract ends you can cancel the 02 sim

The SIM will be part of the Volt package. The £33 Sim sounds like the top SIM package. I negotiated a £10 sim, and got the Virgin bit same price. You might be stuck for your contract period, as above cancel as soon as you can or use it, and cancel any other SIM when you can.
  • I got an email this week from virgin stating they were changing their price structure. In my case, I have a cancellation window. O2 signal is terrible. So I'm looking to renegotiate.

  • Hi I got my o2 sim via VM was told it would be £25 Month, but found out recently (got the same email as above saying as from 2024 VM would increase prices in line with RPI plus some and if you don't like it you can cancel up until end Oct 23) that o2 have applied an extra £4.32 to my bill from April 23 for RPI. Tried to cancel the o2 contract via o2 and they say I will need to pay £234.56 to end the contract early, even though VM say you can cancel without any termination fees and it includes o2. Spoke to VM several times now and they say they can't do it you need to speak to o2, but o2 are adamant they they will only cancel the mobile contract if I pay the termination fee. Bottom line is I can't cancel it without fees end of. Asked VM for their complaints department and they tell me that there isn't one any more. Any suggestions where I go now?
