SD card showing error on Laptop - Help.

Hi there.
When I insert an SD card into the slot in my laptop, I get a blue screen and an error message saying that it has to restart.
As far as I can tell the SD card isn't corrupted, as it works in our camera, and i've tried 2 or 3 cards with the same result.
The only thing I can think of, after a bit of googling, is that the Laptop has lost the 'Driver' for the SD card. Acer Aspire 5750.
Does that sound about right, and if so how do I get it back?
We had the hard drive replaced in 2021 for an SSD and I haven't had need to use the SD slot since then, but I found an old card with some old photos on, so want to upload them.
Could the SD Driver have got wiped during that process, even though most of our data was recovered from the failing drive. We've used the CD/DVD drive since then without issue.
Many thanks in advance....but please don't be too techie.

Assuming in Windows 10 you don't need drivers for SD card slots, as they're quite prolific and Windows has known what to do with them natively for years. The other types maybe, but not SD.Its far more likely the port or the connection on the inside is broken, since it BSoDs when you insert a card,1

I had to Google BSoD !!!!
It's a pain that rather than just not work, it sends the lappy into a restart.
Oh well. It was only a few holiday snaps from 2017, that I forgot to upload at the time. Haven't missed them in 6 years!!!How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.56% of current retirement "pot" (as at end January 2025)0 -

(I ask as I have two and both do and albeit slowly can transfer the pics via USB)1 -
OMG!!! Doh!!! Why didn't I think of that!!!
Yes, it does. I've just found the lead in the "box of bits"
Job done. All transferred.
Thank you so much. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.56% of current retirement "pot" (as at end January 2025)1 -
you can also buy a card slot thingy that has a USB lead on and you can plug it into your laptop USB port and transfer direct from the card

Thanks. If it was to access something more important (or was needed regularly), I thought there was probably something like that available to buy.
Thankfully not needed, as we don't use SD any more, as photos taken with our phones get uploaded to the cloud automatically. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.56% of current retirement "pot" (as at end January 2025)1
