Car rental excess insurance

I'm a newbie to the forum and looking for help. I rented a car using one of the MSE recommended searches and found a reasonable deal with Opodo. When I was completing the purchase it was suggested that I might take our excess insurance with Inter Partner, a member of the AXA Assistance Group. I was reassured to be protected by such a brand but, having been unfortunate to have had an accident, for the last 8 weeks I've been trying to a claim settled and getting nothing but spurious requests for more and more information. I'm trying to escalate my case but I can't find any means for doing so. Any ideas?
