Now and then one reads about sipps and ISAs worth millions of £. Has any outlet collected or has anyone come across good investment ideas? I’m not talking about single company ideas (too risky), but rather ideas like buying low coupon gilts. Decent post tax yield and low downside of held until maturity. Curious if there is a collection of or even current investment ideas.

If you spend a couple of hours reading through this forum ( and the pensions forum) , you will see many investment ideas discussed, including buying gilts.
( There are also a lot of posts about savings accounts on this forum, especially recently, so you can skip through those)1 -
There is a book about how some people made a million plus from their Isas and how they did it: Free Capital by Guy Thomas. I read it a long time ago and it was quite interesting with the people profiled employing various different strategies.caldi9 said:Now and then one reads about sipps and ISAs worth millions of £. You can read about various strategies in the FT's Investors' Chronicle.

There is a book about how some people made a million plus from their Isas and how they did it:I always find these articles strange as ISAs and pensions are just two of the available tax wrappers. Those with a million+ tend to hold larger amounts in GIAs and offshore bonds in addition to the ISA and pensions.
Just because they have a long history of using the ISA allowance each year, doesn't mean their investments are any good.

Fair enough. Meant good investment ideas generally that go beyond ETFs, savings accounts, for example.dunstonh said:There is a book about how some people made a million plus from their Isas and how they did it:I always find these articles strange as ISAs and pensions are just two of the available tax wrappers. But the text beneath says something quite different: "Based on ... 2 highly successful private investors. Each of them has accumulated £1m or more" and "Six are 'ISA millionaires' who have £1m or more in a tax-free ISA".I'm sure lots of people on this board will have accumulated £1m+, and some will be ISA millionaires. Not too difficult if you've taken even opportunity since PEPs, Single Company PEPS, and Tessas, all of which allowed conversion into ISAs, and very easy if the spouse's funds are included. Few of them will be financial geniuses.1 -
I don't think anyone could have made a million pound ISA from low coupon gilts. You don't need good investment ideas, just a general worldwide investment portfolio with maximum invested every year would have probably done it over the last 25 years.caldi9 said:Now and then one reads about sipps and ISAs worth millions of £. I see the book is copyrighted 2011, which might partially explain it.

Good news: If your definition of a good investment is one that returns less than retail cash accounts, it's really easy to have good investment ideas.caldi9 said:I’m not talking about single company ideas (too risky), but rather ideas like buying low coupon gilts. They all had different strategies to achieve it and that's what the OP was asking about.Rollinghome said:wmb194 said:
