Urgent Advice for a tricky holiday compensation

I agree with the others, duty of care ends when you get to your destination airport. I am surprised that they paid your taxi to your hotel as had no liability for that. Whilst the situation was no doubt unsatisfactory you had chosen to fly from an airport 150 miles from home which then gave the issue re not wanting to drive after late arrival.
Out of interest (not that it makes any difference to your claim) how did they choose the 24 passengers that could not board? they should have first asked for volunteers, after that was it dealt with by seat numbers that were not on the replacement aircraft or last to check in?
I would just chalk it up to a disappointing end to hopefully a lovely holiday. Airline is not liable under regulations, your travel insurance may warrant another call explaining that this was a personal choice made after arriving back at destination although any excess on the policy probably wipes out the claim.
You are still £s up with the compensation.0
