Claim form for parking charge

Hi, looking for a bit of help please. I got a PCN from civil enforcement in June last year, I was in the middle of moving house and stupidly ignored contact from them. The place I had parked was previously free to park (church carpark). I parked there at around 10pm so when I went in and it was dark and didn't see the new signs abut parking charges being issued for non-permit holders. There are signs they were just unlit at night.
I now have a claim form from the civil nation business centre and I don't even know where to start. Do I just have to pay it?
Thank you.

No you don't have to just pay it why would you do that, pity you never came here at the outset you could have killed this at POPLA with evidence of poor signage if plan A didn't work. However you now have a court claim from the County Court Business Centre (not the civil nation business centre) and all the info you need is in the newbies start here thread on this forum including what simple plan A is.

Thank you, I wish I'd found this advice sooner. I have used the defence template and emailed it, had an automatic response. Is it just a case of waiting to see what the next step is? Do you just wait to get another letter?0

" I have used the defence template and emailed it, had an automatic response."
Can you post verbatim the paras you added/amended please.1 -
I used all the paragraphs as recommended and just amended the 3rd to -
3. The defendant had previously parked in this location when there were no restrictions, when arriving 18/06/22 21:41 it was dark and the new signage was not lit and therefore not seen.

Please re-read the first post of the Template Defence thread for the next letters, and see the NEWBIES thread second post for the real detail, such as how to fill in your DQ (N180 form) in 2 months' time.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Please please add photos as seen there! Think of this call for evidence when strolling around your town and you spot car parks at churches, shops & businesses that are unrestricted yet there is no abuse, no 'carmageddon'!
OR supermarkets with £70 PCNs only.
OR hospitals with £50 or £60 to deter abuse.
All I need is photos and location.
I will do the rest.
I can PROMISE this evidence will be seen by the decision-makers because I'm on the Code of Practice Government Steering Group representing motorists, and the DLUHC will read my submissions.

Shame it wasn't widely publicised before the change!
