Santander Edge Account

Something to be aware of as it may matter to some people.
Having been an existing customer of Santander for many years I applied for their Edge account, current and then the associated savings account. Both a hard and soft credit search was carried out even though I didn't request any overdraft facility on the current account.
This may matter to some people so please be aware before applying.

I’ve had a joint account for 10 years, opened an everyday account near the start of this year and converted (online? I certainly didn’t visit a branch) to an Edge when their saver first became competitive. No hard searches are showing in any of Equifax/TransUnion/Experian for either of those Santander accounts so maybe only direct applications are searched?
Related to the various edge questions on the board at the moment, here is the total of my fees for the last few months with zero direct debits set up:

I didn't convert my existing current account with them as there was history on there I wanted to keep. I did it as a new application within my online banking. Maybe that was why? With hindsight maybe should have just converted but I thought if they started charging their fees would close it as have existing account. Anyway done now but thought I would let other people know in case they were trying to keep their potential hard searches to a minimum.PloughmansLunch said:I’ve had a joint account for 10 years, opened an everyday account near the start of this year and converted (online? For information, I did convert my Everyday current account to Edge and the transaction history has been preserved. No credit searches.Growingold said:

New account and it did a hard search (no soft search). My TSB was also hard search, neither have I requested OD on. So maybe hard search if new current account.flaneurs_lobster said:

Being an existing customer doesn't count for anything, as I am one, but maybe conversion of existing doesn't require a hard search.1 -
I'm an existing Santander customer and applied for a new Edge account without an overdraft and both a hard and soft search has been done.1
