My wife is with BUPA and I am with The Exeter. We pay for full cover, including inpatient/outpatient/diagnostics/the full works. And it costs us each a lot more than what you have been quoted, even though we have been insured with them for very many years. So I guess you have gone for a budget plan which only covers certain aspects of healthcare. But I am not clear whether the figure you've been quoted covers both of you or just one of you----it seems a very low amount. That's fine, so long as it covers what you feel your needs are----neither of you can have any serious health issues at present or you would not have been offered a quote at all----which is good news. I highly recommend full Private Health Insurance ( premium plan) for all who can afford it. Use a good broker which are easy to find online .
    Good luck and good health.

Thanks for your response Richard. The figure quoted was for both of us, I was told this was the top package available from Bupa by the Heath Crawford representative.
  • Sound like a good deal, Dunnsdale.  Make a final check to confirm it covers all costs for outpatient consultants' fees, inpatient bed and operation costs, MRI/CT Scans and the full works. If all is OK for you, then you've got a great deal, so take it and I hope you and your good lady wife never need to use it. Best wishes.

Cheers Richard, many thanks for your advice.
  • Hi Dunnsdale, Martin Lewis recommends to use AMII (The Association of Medical Insurers and Intermediaries) as does which, i found my broker my health protected via AMII, i have been really happy with them. I went from a company policy to covering my husband and i in retirement, the proposed cover from the insurer which my previous company used quoted and  extortionate amount, my health protected were able to half the quote with a different insurer, we have now used them for two renewals and they suggested we move to another insurer this year and have cut our premiums further, i would suggest you contact them and ask for multiple quotes, they were fantastic in thoroughly explaining each individual component of the quotes and we were able to tailor our cover to meet our needs, pre-exsisting conditions were also covered too
