So I was successful ina. Credit check for a device lease. I was offered it but at 15-20% increase. now my credit score has gone down but only change is I got new balance Transfer credit card, but I’ve paid that all off plus some of the 0% interest Balance transfer amount.
so my question is despite nothing else new other than me paying of credit card each month even though my score has dropped 100 points since I got it. So should I pay it all off and get rid and then reapply for lease to see if I avoid the increase or would it not really matter as my score/history/situation hasn’t and won’t change any time soon

The score is for comedy purposes and has no bearing on anything.
  • Ok so nothing good has happened or expected to anytime soon. So my past is what’s holding me back?

Someone looking at your "credit score" is actually looking at your credit history.  No numbers involved just a list of all the loans/credit cards/overdrafts/ccjs/etc that you have had in the last several years.  It will show what credit you have applied for, who's done credit checks even if you haven't been given credit.  It will include things like looking for car insurance etc as well as whether you are registered to vote.

Paying something off will help but that's some time in the future.  Depending on system updates, timing issues the current history that someone is looking at may in fact be from 3 months back.  So paying something off today won't improve things by tomorrow.  It takes time.

  • Ok well I missed an Argos payment for very small amount even though I did complain as app was playing up. Apart from my current credit cards I’ve paid off im fine
  • That data, relating to the missed payment, will be portrayed as such, meaning lenders researching your money management will act upon it in their own internal lending protocol.
All, and any, discrepancies show up and if that's the only discrepancy throughout your entire file in theory it should be ok.
