What happens in managed migration to UC

Hello, after everyone’s kind help I am nearly ready to do the managed migration. I wonder what the process is and in what order?

I know I type in the address given on the letter and once I do that there is no going back but I dont know what happens once I press next (or whatever the button is). Does anyone know what happens next?

Do I have questions to answer, how do they see the paperwork, what do I have to show them and how quickly, how do I explain anything, what is a journal and how do I do it?

Do I, or can I, go to see a proper person (and where) so I can show paperwork and say about not requiring to do work and will they help me to put it all in order or talk me through it like the person did for contribution based ESA - do they do UC.

I really need a timeline so I can manage this - it is very scary because it is very unknown and all I hear is how awful it is and difficult.

Thank you

Claims can be done online because UC is a digital benefit. It's not typing the address that counts, it's "submitting your claim" which is done after you've answered all the questions in the form. Before you submit the claim it will aks you if you're sure you want to do that because you can't go back once that is done. See link. https://www.gov.uk/universal-credit/how-to-claim

Citizens Advice also have a help to claim helpline where they will support you to start your claim. See link. https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/about-us/contact-us/contact-us/help-to-claim/

Once your claim is submitted you may need to attend your local Job centre for your new claim appointment. If you're in the Support Group for ESA then you'll be entitled to the LCWRA element form the start of your claim. Once you have access to your journal you can put a message and tell them that you're in the Support Group.

Yes, you do hear of many horror stories but there's also many good stories but we rarely hear about them because if someone has no questions to ask we don't hear their story.

Just to answer the question about a journal, that only comes up once you've submitted the claim.

This is what mine looks like (the entries about Other Benefits are just telling me my ESA is deducted from UC).

Yours when you submit your claim will have a list of all the sections you've completed, like this (the right hand column says who added an entry, and in completing the sections it says your own name for those which is why I've had to blur it.  I also just blurred the exact date/time for a bit of extra privacy).

The CAB Help to Claim service poppy linked above could be a really good idea for you, as anything you're not sure about they should be able to help explain :)

Spoonie_Turtle  thank you so, so much for showing me I appreciate it. Each bit I can demystify makes it easier for me to understand and not a black hole I am jumping into with associated fears and shutdown.

Poppy  thank you for your link - I really need a human I think as my use of phone is not good unless I have a script and know exactly what is happening - I cannot finish sentences or remember what is said but if they are in front of me I can hand paper and not have to use voice and they will see I am trying and give me time. You are right - good stories don’t require intervention but bad do and I must remember that. PIP lady was kind as was the CBESA man, they helped me lots.

    Once again thank you both
