I have a friend who recently lost an elderly relative, they have probate and requested to cash in their late relatives shares as they were an executor can anyone help them understand this? Personal details removed for security.

Looks fairly simple, shares sold for 265,800 Danish Krone, converted to £30,612.46 less those 4 charges, total to be paid £30,369.49.0

Thankyou for the reply, that's what they was originally thinking, however the actual payment received from CS was a lot more. Thats what is confusing them.Keep_pedalling said:Looks fairly simple, shares sold for 265,800 Danish Krone, converted to £30,612.46 less those 4 charges, total to be paid £30,369.49.0 -

Not sure how CGT works, but I assume they will need to pay some form of tax on the amount they received?0 -
Sounds like an error either in the statement or the amount paid. What shares are we talking about?Warrior1957 said:

No CGT should be payable on the shares unless they went up in value in the period between the date of death and date of sale.Warrior1957 said:About £15,000 more. Not sure how CGT works, but I assume they will need to pay some form of tax on the amount they received?
As for the extra £15k, is it perhaps dividends? Just speculation although I would still expect the sum to be detailed on a statement somewhere.0 -
The £15k appeared on another statement arriving days later.nom_de_plume said:

Would the company happen to be AP Moeller - Maersk? E.g. https://www.nasdaqomxnordic.com/shares/microsite?Instrument=CSE3200
If it is, and I'm reading this right, then if the last 3 dividends from March 22 onwards had not been paid out (e.g. because the platform had been informed of the death of original shareholder) then it looks like that would comprise a value of 6800 Krone per share, so a total of 136,000 Krone and given the currency rate in your first post then that would come to just over £15,600.
This could of course be completely coincidental, so the only way to be 100% certain would be to contact the platform that were used to hold these shares.0
