Tenerife Wildfires Holiday

Hi advice please. Son and his friend due to fly to Tenerife tomorrow  to a hotel close to where wildfires are. Son is asthmatic and this is declared on his insurance policy. I have seen photos in the media of smoke behind hotel,  ash in the pool and around pool area. The firefighters are using the hotel restaurant on their breaks so obviously pretty close to the action. We have been unable to get through to the insurers as they are shut till Monday. Does anyone think we'd be able claim money back for this if they don't go on grounds of the smoke and ash affecting  his asthma. First Choice are not for budging on us paying for a different hotel  they want full cost of holiday as a cancellation fee but say insurers may pay out. Feel like we're in no man's land.

Without some sort of medical advice not to go, I wouldn’t be holding out a lot of hope on the insurance front, based purely on some photos.
Has he  tried contacting the hotel to ask what the situation is at the moment?

Yes  they have now phoned hotel  - staff were honest - they have a cleaning company in to deal with ash and have said fires moving in opposite direction to hotel but it is now under control so I think they're just going to go unless things change overnight.
