If you want thte cover you need to abide by the policy conditions.

You need to explain to the person why you need answers to these questions.

If they do not want to cooperate or give false information then explain the consequences  to them.

The insurance company will ask for a medical report in the event of a claim ,  so if they have had a health problem in the appropriate time frame and not advised it , the claim will be refused.

  • If the policy holder doesn't know the status of a close relative's health - how can the travel insurance company be aware ?
Disclosure is an essential element of risk assessment - surely ?

Ignorance is bliss, it would seem, as far as travel insurance is concerned.

Don't ask, and I'll tell no lies.

AIUI, you're not expected to grill your extended family as to their current (or recent) medical conditions, before you book a holiday.
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

if you want cover incase a close family member  becomes ill, dies or wahtever ,  and you no longer want to travel, then you need to comply with policy requirements.

But, if you make a claim and the insurance company find out from the medical report ( which they will ask for, or they may ask for) that there  was a pre exisitng condition then they will refuse any claim.

Like any other insurance, you need to read the policy document to confirm it gives you the cover you want and what you have to do to get that cover.

if you aren't concerned with cover  if a close relative ( I don't thing travel insurance companies normally cover extended family) becomes ill or dies before or during your holiday then you do not need  do anything.

if you want to be able to claim, then you do need to check the requirements to obtain that cover.
