Hi,
For those of you that have had experiences with Deputyships.....
I am about to apply to be a deputy for my mother who is in the advanced stages of Vascular Dementia. It's a long story so I'll keep to the questions I have,
What happens to the funds in joint accounts (my 82yo stepdad is still with us and the account that mum's pensions go into is in joint names, he has an account in his sole name where his finances are run.
What happens to the proceeds of a property sale for a house in joint names?
If mum and stepdad move in with us, can I charge a living cost to mum's finances and what would be considered reasonable for when I submit accounts to the OPG?
I have more questions, but I think the answers to the above will probably cover the rest also.
Thanks in advance.

I would suggest that for the account in joint name, if the only money going in and out of it is your mother’s with your stepfather’s finances being separate, then it should all be treated as your mother’s money.https://www.birketts.co.uk/legal-update/joint-bank-accounts-who-owns-the-money/
with regards to what is considered reasonable for your mum living with you, that’s a bit how long is a piece of string because it depends on your individual costs. So you probably need to work out how much extra it’s going to cost you for them living there, taking everything into account, food, bills, etcetera then split that between the two of them.
I think with regards to driving people to appointments, days out et cetera, I’ve seen mention of a certain amount per mile.
not really up to speed on that side of things though. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

I agree, separate the finance. Does your SF have a financial LPA in place? If not that needs sorting to avoided deputyship again.0

Also to add as well, there was a very long wait for deputyship at the OPG - not sure what it’s down to at the moment but it was 12 months plus.
If you need access to money for your mother before that, you can apply to be her appointee for her state pension/any benefits that she gets in the meantime. That won’t allow you to access her bank account, but you can have the money paid into a different account in your name on her behalf. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Agree with the above, it's a very slow process. Sadly my aunt passed away 13 months after my mum applied for deputyship, and it was still going through the courts.
