Would you block this buyer?

I sent off an item to a buyer. The courier made four attempts to deliver the parcel with no success so has started the process of returning it back to me. So I will have to refund, no problem, that's life on Ebay. Presumably the best way to refund is via a INR case (the buyer hasn't opened one yet) as then they can't leave feedback?

The question is, do I block them being as I've lost the courier fees, etc., or do I let them purchase again bearing in mind the issues around delivery? I'm of a mind to block them being as I've lost the courier fees, etc.,  despite them stating that they still want the item and are happy to pay the postage costs again. They also wanted it delivered to another address (but this only came to light after the courier had started the process of returning the parcel to me).

  • I would personally block them, I wouldn't loose out on the fees. I had the same issue recently in vinted where the parcel was not delivered or they hadnt been to collect it so I don't get the money they paid which is rather annoying!

As a buyer myself, yes.  Things do genuinely happen but that saga is ridiculous.  Life's too short for you to have to go through this kind of palaver if you don't have to!

Sadly the buyer is only blocked from feedback if the seller wins the case.

Certainly wouldn't do that, you'd typically have no cover from eBay if they open an INR.

If  "The buyer provided an invalid or incorrect address at checkout" they aren't covered by the Moneyback Guarantee but would probably involve a headache of getting eBay to follow their terms over what usually happens.

Can't really answer your question as it's a personal choice but telling the buyer you can't send to another address as eBay doesn't allow you to so would they prefer a refund might see the matter resolved.

If they left bad feedback asking eBay to read the messages implying the buyer gave the wrong address and you did the right thing by being polite and refunding them might see some goodwill there with removal hopefully :)

    Block. Do not resend.
I’ve had this - item was returned to me. Buyer then contacted me saying he didn’t realise and a card wasn’t left by the courier etc (which was strange considering it was an expensive camera!). Wanted me to resend - even paid extra postage.

I think he was hoping I would send without tracking or something, because as soon as I posted a second time he opened a case with eBay for non-receipt!

I had to contact eBay with the new tracking and tell them what had happened.

When he received the item finallly, he contacted eBay saying it was faulty.
Received it back and it was perfectly fine!!

I just refunded and blocked. It’s not worth the hassle.

At this time of year there's a chance that the recipient is on holiday, not at home for another week or 2 and is unable to act on the situation.

I'm only a buyer, so can't comment from the sellers angle, but this could happen and be legitimate.

Buyer refunded and blocked - I decided it was more trouble than it was worth. I wasn't going to send it out again and definitely not to another address.

I don't think that the buyer was on holiday, why would you buy anything if you knew you were going away? Besides which, they were very quick to contact me after the last delivery attempt.

    1) Because some people are clueless, some don't care, who knows why people do the things they do - on a daily basis i encounter people doing dim things.
    2) Yes, and because of that fact it made me wonder why they weren't taking delivery now.

Just to end this, the parcel was received back. No further communication from the buyer, despite their desperate need for the item!
