Dart Charge txt - is it a scam?

I have today received 2 separate texts saying 'Payment received from card ending....' and Titled Dart Charge.  It has a card number and bank account number on it. They both said a payment of £2.50 had been made today (17th August).  I don't recognise the bank accounts but I worry this is an old bank account I've forgotten and that I'm losing money from it as I'm being scammed. However there is no hyperlink or even a way to respond to the txt and the only reference to this I can find on the net is Dartford Crossing but I've not been near that for 20 years or so. Is it likely a scam or has anyone else received similar who could shed light on it? Thanks

Probably just a wrong number? Not sure what the scam would be if it’s not inviting you to get in touch with anyone.

I've received similar texts - when I've paid for the Dartford Crossing.

It says "payment received" not "payment sent" so it has come from the people who take payment for the crossing, not from your bank. The crossing will just send the payment confirmation to whatever number the person who paid entered on the website - they won't have a way of linking the card/bank details to a specific phone number.

So by far the most likely scenario is that there is someone out there with fat fingers and a similar phone number to yours, who has just paid for the Dartford Crossing and is wondering why he didn't get his text confirmation.

For me, this is the most worrying bit of your post:

You really need to sort out whether you actually have any 'old' bank accounts with money in them as a matter of priority!
