Finally, after about 15 years, I was starting to find Twitter useful. There used to be so much junk to wade through that I didn't use it, but then I discovered Tweetdeck which didn't seem to have superfluous stuff. I found it quite good to have up to follow the news on topics of interest to me. But not that great.
So that lasted several months. But now, I believe that Tweetdeck is called XPro and costs £108/year. It's not worth that much to me. Twitter/X now seems to require me to click on it to update it whenever there are new tweets whereas I always envisaged it as a kind of feed where new items would just appear. So that's a bit of a bore. Plus the adverts are there.
Are there any improvements to be had, or shall I just go back to living without it?
Edit: If I do get XPro, do I still have to keep clicking to see new posts?

If you're starting to feel like you live on Twitter then you should definitely be getting away from it. What a strange way to promote their service.2 -
Unless threads now lets you have a personal feed of only people you follow and not random brands & instagram influencers, lets you send dms via the app, stops forcing your accounts to be linked to your/a insta account and isn't only useable via a phone/tablet - it's a bit of a rubbish replacement."And suddenly I find myself listening to a man I've never known before,Telling me about the sea..."0

Apparently I have failed to follow Instagram's Community Guidelines, although they won't tell me which ones. Now they want me to upload a selfie, holding a number written on a piece of paper. I think you need Instagram to log in to Threads. I'll follow your advice, Jenna, and give it a miss.0

Isnt that the same as the infamous politician that complained that all the adverts on the internet were about pørn and was saying the laws must be changed etc until someone pointed out that the adverts shown are based on the type of content you've been viewing and interacting with?
Have to say that my Twitter feed is full of hard core (maybe extremist) beer fans discussing new/failed breweries and/or luxury travel items but nothing I'd call a cess pit nor something bad for your mental health (physical health and/or bank balance health may be a separate question).4 -
I'm not talking about the for you feed, but the idiots who insert themselves in conversations and the promoted posts which have nothing to do with the subjects you diaciss.
For me it was word games and retro computers but I'd find all sorts of hatespeech, crypto scams etc from Twitter Blue subscribers.
This is why there's been an exodus from Twitter.0 -

Yeah I think there may be another major high profile reason why there has been a Twitter/X exodus... The saying "Nero fiddled while Rome burns" come to mind.

My earlier post is now out of date - Threads can now be logged into and posted on directly via their website ( https://www.threads.net/ ) & you now have a dedicated feed. Hashtags still don't work and you can't do the equivalent of quote tweeting (but you can repost), & it it still seems to be linked to/dependent on instagram accounts, so still not quite a more friendly twitter replacement, but getting there."And suddenly I find myself listening to a man I've never known before,Telling me about the sea..."0
