Insuring learner driver
I've been in contact with AA Beam to get my daughter added to my policy with her provisional license and they won't do it. They've given me a link to get her her own insurance and that's coming in at about £300. When we insured my older daughter when she was learning, the insurer added her for a minimal charge. It's looking like it might be more cost effective to cancel my current insurance and start again but even that is looking pricey. Does anyone have any advice please? Thanks for reading.

If she can get her own insurance for £300 I would snatch their hand off3

When I was instructing about 15 years ago, these 'add-on' learner policies were about £30- £35 per month. £300 a year in 2023 seems very good.1

Add-on insurance is better because an accident won't impact your own policy / NCB / etc.
Veygo (Admiral) and others offer short-term add-on insurance - for as little as an hour at a time.
Depending on how much experience they want / need then it may work out cheaper to pay the £300 and be able to practice at any time.0 -
So can I just clarify whether people think it's better to take out a new policy with myself and my daughter on it or set up a policy just for her with a provisional licence please? I guess either way I would lose my NCB if she had an accident right - unless it was protected?

When they were learning I paid around £60 a month extra to add a learner driver to my policy.1 -
I'm assuming that this is a special learner policy which only provides cover for your daughter driving and is based on parent keeping an in force policy on the car.
That's what I'm looking at for my son and coming on around 420 on a Daewoo Matiz so 300 sounds pretty good to me.
And no it won't impact your NCD as it is a standalone policy but also probably won't accrue NCD for daughter.2 -
The modern way is standalone learner insurance. The learner is the policyholder so any claims don't affect the main policyholder.
Marmalade is one large provider. You buy cover in monthly blocks as the cover stops as soon as the test is passed. The more months you buy the cheaper it is, but £20-50 a month is typical depending on vehicle and period of cover,

Adrian Flux will broker similar insurance.1
