Why do banks with opening offers (and regularly) like you to use the debit card

I do not have an FD account. The customer satisfaction surveys have always put FD at or near the top. Online service is much the same nowadays. Some systems are nicer to use than others, but they all work. Branch service is non-existent to poor, except for Metro Bank, and Nationwide to a lesser extent. Phone service is the main differentiator. FD has a reputation for answering the phone quickly.ZeroSum said:

They are, but you shouldn't need to do that when you've got the current account. You should just be able to do a transfer between your own accounts. It's an extra couple of steps that you have to go out of your way to find out how to do it. It's once again shoddy service from the bank that thinks it offers great service.lr1277 said:ZeroSum said:

I've never known one that doesn't allow debit cars paymentsIf memory serves based on posts on ths forum, HSBC don't allow debit card payments for their credit cards. Also I don't think FD allow debit card payments.Interestingly enough, the old John Lewis card which was run by HSBC did allow debit card payments. And if your DD is only set to pay the minimum, then you will have to make a Faster Payment or a BACS transfer to pay the remainder.

Have just had a look at my FD card, and once again the bank with the supposed great service you can't just transfer money between your own accounts like other banks, its this weird convoluted method of paying FD themselves & using your card number a reference. It's not obvious how to do it, you need to watch a tutorial. They're absolutely stuck in the 1990's with so many of their processes & ML keeps promoting their great serviceI too have an FD card and a few months ago, I wanted to make an additional payment. In my mnd, the instructions were like setting up another payee with the reference being my credit card number. Now that this payee is setup, it will be available for 1 year (possibly more).Easy peasy.Or my expectations are lower than other peoples'.

Metro Bank branches are non existent if you live up north. I'm sure the nearest one to me is over 100 miles away. Answering the phone quick is only one small aspect of good service, however if the service was actually good, you'd never need to even phone them as they only time I need to phone a bank when there's a problem. I've got a decent list of things that FD do poorly compared to other banks & its mainly down to them not updating their processes for the last 30 years or so. What FD do good in terms of service is that they pay you off with £25 when you whinge about something. So far I've had 3 of these payments so far, and I'll probably get another when I complain about the way pay off the credit card when the stooze period comes to an endGeoffTF said:

It looks very swish. Lots of staff and not many customers. Perhaps it is aimed at up market customers who want a full service and are willing to pay for it, even if they do not use it. I wonder how long the branch will last nonetheless. Why did they not open it in Leeds?I only have to ring Santander when I want to do a big payment. 15 minutes+ wait time twice last week. Not great.0 -
Halifax, Virgin Money, Virgin Atlantic and Tesco Bank all allow debit card payments towards a credit card. Most also recommend it as the best method. All also allow bank transfer. However, isn’t really relevant in this situation, although Halifax allows for current account or savings account holders to move direct from account to credit card, and Tesco Bank recently introduced a ‘Pay by Bank’ service which I believe uses direct debits.0

The same surveys that sometimes put Natwest and RBS 15 points apart despite the fact they are to all intents and purposes the same thing, same products, same call centres etc?GeoffTF said:

Scare is not the same as non existent. Metro has branches in Bradford, Sheffield, Manchester, and Liverpool. These are all up north.ZeroSum said:

Since when? They might allow debit card payments towards a credit card, but I've yet to see any of them, let alone most of them, recommend this as the best way to pay. On each of their websites Direct Debit is the first payment method listed.pridehappy said:Halifax, Virgin Money, Virgin Atlantic and Tesco Bank all allow debit card payments towards a credit card. With Halifax, paying by debit card is the fourth payment method mentioned; with Tesco, it's the third, and with Virgin it's the second.1 -
Depends what you consider the North relative to where you live. Those places I consider to be the MidlandsEarthBoy said:
