When is best to book a holiday for Summer 2024?

Booked a self catering packaged hol in Jan this year for 7n. We got back last week and it was really good. It was really hard to save up the £100pwpp as we booked so late.

Little one starts school in Sept so I'm already thinking of booking holiday for Summer 2024.

In your experience when is best time to book?

We are 2 adults and a child.

I've noticed that the free child places seem to increase the adult costs say to £1kpp. But if you paid for 3ppl, it would be £600-£700 - so similar amounts.

Any tips would be appreciated as will need to do this year in, year out now.

I think it can depend on where you are planning to go.

For example, there are often promotional offers for package holidays to Florida for the following year with deals launched around the August bank holiday weekend to preceding year, which run though around mid-September.  Tour Operators may promote other destinations at a similar time to secure early bookings for the following summer.

If planning to return to the same location next year, nothing to stop you contacting the hotel/apartment/camp site and asking if they can offer you a deal if you book now for next summer.  Perhaps a price freeze or better payment terms to fit your budget saving structure.

I would just be looking at Europe again, short flight times. Don't want to do same thing as we did this year. But feel I want to be more prepared next year.
  • I wanted to ask the same thing as ironlady 2022; we are 2 adults and 2 teenage children and wanted to go to Spain this summer for 2 weeks. Didn't start looking until Jan this year and thought it too expensive then, so waited and kept looking to see if prices came down, only to find that if anything they increased. Didn't book anything in the end. So would love to know what others have found is the best time to book for next summer (has to be in school hols).

School holidays are the first to sell so book sooner rather than later. There is a suggestion that demand might be lower next year due to the cost of living but with inflation falling and customers prepared to pay much higher prices this year, I am not sure that will be the case. The major operators already have next summer on sale, some with 'free child places' but be warned, the offer isn't always what it appears to be, so heck prices carefully

We already have 3 holidays booked for next year Egypt in March, Prague in June & Rome in September, we book as soon as we see a price we are happy with then once booked stop looking.
If you download some of the holiday company apps you quite often get flash 24 hour sales, we booked Prague on one of these and saved £100 each on the price it had been the week before.
Also check from other airports to see if you can save quite a bit, we are 20 mins drive from Leeds/Bradford but can normally save quite a bit (several £100s) by traveling from Luton (Easyjet rather than Jet2)

@Indout96 The OP needs school holidays.

@ironlady2022 If you want to go abroad, how about looking at May half term/October half term rather than July/August?  See if you can split holidays up?  Have a look for INSET days, are they on a Friday or Monday either side of half-term?  One year we got incredibly cheap flights to Tenerife on Easter Saturday, rather than Good Friday.

But as above, sign up for all newsletters etc

An aside:  I add money to my currency card each week/month to save up for spends.  Yes I know, probably not the best, but it works for us.

Thank you. I did think about the half terms but prefer summer hols to break it up a bit.
