We currently have a conservatory base and a patio that comes almost out 4m. Base and patio going soon but what size would you replace it with?

Depends on what you want it for. Outdoor eating area with bbq? Hot tub and sun loungers? Children's play area?? Will there be raised box planters edging it? We are more than happy with a patio the width of the house but only 2 metres deep. We LOVE the shade it provides from noon every day. Our 'entertaining/eating' area is decking at the other end of the garden.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3661

Full width of house
Break up the slab where conservatory was and drop patio area to 6 inches below DPC1 -

My patio is some 10m wide and 3.5m deep. Some days, I feel it could do with being quite a bit bigger, but I certainly wouldn't go any smaller.2m would be just about the right size for a path thoughHer courage will change the world.
Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.1 -
I had a 2m deep space between the back of the house and a garden wall. If you want to seat up to 6 people, I really don't think that 2m will be deep enough once you have got chairs around a table and need to allow enough space for people to pull the chairs out and get into/out of them. Believe me, I desperately wanted it to fit but it was too tight for comfort. I agree that 3 - 3.5m would be minimum.1

Choose your furniture, see what fits.I know it's traditional to go with the width of the house but really you want to comfortably fit the things that are important to you.We have around 4m x 4m for a sofa and two armchairs. We also have a triangular patio, about half the size for a dining table that never gets used. Our actual dining table is too close to bother eating outside.Neither area is immediately next to the house. If you want something to be really successful, you design it as a whole - ie. the whole garden, even if you do it in chunks.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
