LONDON (Reuters) - The number of first time house buyers has fallen to the lowest level since 1980, with average homes now unaffordable in most towns, mortgage lender Halifax said on Saturday.
HBOS's Halifax said 300,000 first time buyers had entered the housing market in 2007, 44 percent less than in 2002.
