Car Insurance provider with wrong No Claims Discount years

Last September I took out my car insurance with Swinton and told them I had 11 years no claims. On taking out the policy they asked for proof which I sent them from Admiral who were my insurance provider at the time. When I received my insurance documents through from Swinton last year it said I had 9 years no claims not 11. So I rang them and queried it and they said their system caps no claims at 9 years so I could for arguments sake have 25 years no claims but my documents would only show 9.

That was fine until I got my policy renewal and as I could get a price cheaper by going back to Admiral I cancelled my policy with Swinton and asked for my proof of no claims but when they sent it, it only showed 10. I rang them and queried this and they said it was because my insurance documents stated 9 years so I had to tell them what I had gone through with them the previous year. After being passed around on the phone for over an hour I finally spoke to someone who was semi competent and asked me to send them my previous proof of no claims from Admiral, which I did and the person said they would amend the document but would charge me £35. I told them I was not paying £35 to fix their error so after another 20 minutes of waiting on the phone they told me they would correct the document free of charge.

However, when I received the document it was showing 11 year again, so again I rang them up. The person on the phone stated I am still in my 11th year and I would only get an updated document saying 12 years when my policy expires at the beginning of September. I didn't believe this but I was that fed up I told them fine and put the phone down. However, 20 minutes after that I received another email from Swinton confirming my policy would be cancelled at the start of September and confirmed I now had 12 years no claims.

As if that isn't confusing enough, in the past week or so when I have logged onto my account with Swinton there are three different new documents for me to view, two say I have 11 years no claims and the other says I only have 10. The price I have got from Admiral is based on me having 12 years no claims, as I do have one official documents from Swinton that states I have 12 years no claims and I also still have my documents from September 2022 from Admiral stating at the time I had 11 years no claims, will this all be okay?

Many insurers cap at 9yrs so it's a common issue. But out of interest did 12yrs vs 10yrs make any difference to your Admiral quote ?

Must admit I haven't found any price difference between getting a quote with 9 years NCD vs 20 years NCD and as such have not had any issue when I switch between insurers where sometimes it stays at 9 and other times it may grow to a larger number of years if I remain for more than a year or so. Always just use whatever the current insurer uses and its not cost me anything so far.

Being honest I didn't check the difference as I knew I has 12 years NCD so just put that in when I was on GoCompare
