I am trying to locate a car insurance company that will allow me to take out an additional 3rd party policy to cover me for Hire & Reward
This is a requirement and an option when signing up to deliver for Amazon Flex, however you need the permission of your main insurer and lots I have tired don’t allow it
anyone have any ideas please ?

You might need a specialist provider, although I remember Admiral doing something like what you want, it's a while since i looked though.0

As Amazon both why the permission is required and if they can recommend providers that give it. Most top-up insurance doesn't require the underlying insurer to be informed and if asked most will say no because they are still the RTA insurer of the vehicle if something goes wrong with the top up insurance it reverts to them to deal with.0

do you think people do it (as thousands of people do Amazon Flex for example) and dont even refer to their primary insurer ?0

We get monthly questions on much rarer events (drink drivers being asked to repay claims, people who sold their car and forgot to cancel the insurance and asked to repay the buyers accident etc) and yet this almost never comes up. Much more likely people dont realise than most are complaint and insurers dont have an issue.0 -

Amazon Flex would be an ideal solution for me but the confusion regarding car insurance is off-putting.
I have registered for Amazon Flex and have been accepted and am all ready to start but I have now received an email stating that I need my own Commercial Vehicle/Hire & Reward insurance. Amazon Flex recommended a couple of companies with one being Inshur who have quoted 0.47p per hour for the hours worked only. However my own insurance company say I would need to cancel my policy with them as they do not cover cars that have dual insurance
Very confusing and a real shame.
Any advice please?0 -

The slight problem is that your normal SDPC policy will be easily identified as the RTA insurers if for example you were drink driving whilst out delivering parcels which may invalidate both policies covers but a third party injured would look to the insurer on MID to payout anyway (legally they have a right of recovery from you no matter which insurer is forced to act as RTA Insurer)1 -

*there is also a Mail trail as I emailed for advice. Never got a response so had to call and now I’m unsure what I was told.
Would my main insurance being completely void if I’d taken out commercial insurance with another company OR is my main insurance only void whilst I use the commercial insurance.I just don’t know 100%0 -

Unfortunately people want cheap insurance and so call centres are full of people trying to do their best but normally only a few days training on insurance (rest of the 2 weeks training will be on the systems, sales, data protection etc). They are then targeted on AHT (average handling time), so need to give an answer quickly and cannot put you on hold and call the technical support team with each and every question. The consequence is contact centres are full of urban myths because someone hears Bob who's been there 5 years say something and assume it must be true so repeat it and avoid the 10 minute queue to speak to a technical team or team manager (who have no more insurance training than a raw recruit).
There are brands where all staff hold or are working towards insurance qualifications, that all claims staff are qualified lawyers etc but the salaries to pay for such highly qualified staff is reflected in the premiums... most dont do consumer insurance and those that do are not the sort that go on confused.com etc.3 -

I have now joined a Facebook Amazon Flex group and even there the waters are murky regarding insurance.
The general feeling is that 95% of insurance companies do not provided hire & reward insurance or allow 'top up hire & reward insurance' from another company. The few insurance companies that do are expensive in the extreme i.e Admiral so not financially viable to do so.
If I had been a little more innocent and just taken the top up insurance recommended by Amazon Flex(Insure) and not even read the small print about contacting my main insurer I would be earning now and none the wiser.
As it stands all I have is a memory of a telephone call to a young woman from Hastings Direct quoting 'sorry we can’t allow that'. Maybe as you have stated her main concern was AHT but I just do not know.
Amazon Flex need to make the insurance process a lot easier to understand rather than leave it up to the individual to check with their main insurer on what is and what is not allowed.
At the end of the day I'd like to know 100% where I stand with car insurance but it seem the insurance industry is never that clear.
If anyone has an email address Hastings Direct actually respond to I'd be very grateful. Thank you.0
