Just spoken to my cousin who is a carpenter, and this (photo) is what he'd suggested doing. This being a birds-eye views
This just feels easier than making holes in all sides and in future you may not need one on the other side so seems like a waste.

For the top surface, this works. Or perhaps even multiple smaller holes.
But as the three carcasses below are separate, and have partitions… if I wanted to get cables to one corner, I would need to cut a hole through the sides!0
