Help with the Chargeback Process

Depends on how busy the bank is.BlueBoxMan63 said:
Thank you, it's all very complicated isn't it? I've never had to do one before so I'm not all that clued up on the process. So I assume that come the 45 day mark I may here something from the bank?eskbanker said:The Visa/Mastercard chargeback process gives the merchant 45 days to respond from when the bank notifies them that chargeback has been initiated, so allowing a bit of time elsewhere in the process it could easily be 8 weeks from start to finish.
It can take a couple of weeks after 45 days to pick up some cases.
Good news is garage has car.Life in the slow lane0 -
So a quick update here for what it's worth. I've heard nothing from the bank and have not received any money back. However, the car, which I still have the log book for on my name, is now listed for sale again on the dealer website. Should I do anything about this? Also, is it likely a good sign that I will be successful in my claim?0

I'd keep your powder dry for now, but would take screenshots of the listing just in case they come in useful if the dispute continues. I'd have thought that if the dealer was backing down they'd be making efforts to get the registration transferred....BlueBoxMan63 said:So a quick update here for what it's worth. Yes, I've taken screenshots of the listing. My thoughts exactly. As I say the logbook is still in my name, so I believe legally still mine. I suppose it's possible they are trying to pull a fast one of some kind. They have my number so could call or text anytime or contact me on WhatsApp but there's been nothing yet.eskbanker said:

I don't believe that's strictly true - the V5C document typically referred to as the 'log book' signifies who is the registered keeper rather than the legal owner as such. They'd typically be the same person, but worth understanding the difference, especially if the dispute continues....BlueBoxMan63 said:

Many thanks for highlighting that for me, it's not something I had considered previously. Presumably their argument if things work out for me is that they have returned funds used for me to acquire the car and so ownership has reversed as a result, they would then have been the last people to purchase the vehicle under that way of thinking. I still possess the spare key and the vehicle manual so should I get my money back I would endeavour to reunite them with the vehicle.eskbanker said:I don't believe that's strictly true - the V5C document typically referred to as the 'log book' signifies who is the registered keeper rather than the legal owner as such. Change of ownership is done online by dealers now. So unless they give DVLA your email when doing this you will never know. Till you get the letter saying you are no longer the registered keeper.BlueBoxMan63 said:

So another update. My bank balance has now gone up by the amount I was expecting back. The remains listed for sale on the website of the dealership I originally bought it from. I'm currently unable to get through to my bank to speak with anyone and no letter arrived this morning. Presumably though this is the money I was expecting back although whether the bank got it back or the garage voluntarily returned it I do not know as yet.0
