Amazon selling dangerous item that caught fire on me today and are still listing it.

Options
So, Amazon are still selling a very damgerous item.

I bought this laptop charger two and a half years ago from Amazon, I plugged it in today and it caught fire randomly. The inside was still burning and didn't stop until I unplugged it.

I phoned Citizens Advice and they've forwarded it to Trading Standards but said as they're not sure whether it was fulfilled by Amazon or the seller through Amazon.

Anyway, I phoned Amazon today to tell them about thus, the guy on the phone started off OK but when he accessed the order, he told me the product had been recalled (I never received any word of this) and got really stroppy with me, interrupting me and having a go at me saying "This is enough for you!" repeatedly.

The product is still being sold on Amazon through a different seller than the one I bought it from, I looked at the serial number in the photo and it's the exact same one as mine.

How do I get this item taken down to stop this from happening again? Amazon don't give me a contact number aside from the one I called and there's no complaints department that I can see.

    You don't. You can't.

You've reported it to Citizens Advice and they've passed it on to Trading Standards. You've also reported it to Amazon. You have already done everything you can.

Consumer Rights entitle you to a full refund but that's as far as they go. They don't empower you to dictate the seller's policies or business model.

pretty much that. If you've reported it then you've done your part. Its not legal to sell products that have been recalled but whether anyone cares enough to take action I can't tell you.

    Amazon purchase or marketplace purchase?

A product that is 2 1/2 years old & has been recalled, will not be the same as listing today.

You say that you bought this item two and half years ago so a product now on sale should have been improved to prevent this happening

Does the instruction manual for your laptop say you must only use the original charger or a supplier-approved replacement?
