Holiday Operator reserved incorrect hotel - Should I accept the refund?

On arrival at my confirmed hotel there was no reservation, it transpired we were booked into the incorrect hotel in a resort 4km away in a quieter area with less facilities.  The operator confirmed it was an administration error on their end and offered us a 20% refund on the cost of the hotel only.  Should I accept this?  appreciate any advice.

How does that relate to the relative prices of the hotels?

    Hello OP

So which hotel did you stay at? If the one you thought you should have had booked, did you have to pay extra?

Do you know what laws govern the contract (resort sounds like abroad, who did you book with)?

Presumably you stayed in the other hotel where you actually had a reservation rather than the one you thought you had booked?

Hard to say really without knowing the ins and outs - what would you think was fair? How much was your holiday impacted? Was the other hotel to the same standard? same facilities? what would have been the price difference if you'd booked the other hotel in the first place?

How much is 20 percent of the hotel worth in money terms?

And also consider what if any recourse will you have if you don't accept the offer? It's always worth negotiating but not so hard that you cut off your nose to spite your face.

I think a lot of this depends on how severely you were impacted. There’s hotels which you use as somewhere to sleep at only, and there’s hotels you book and stay there for the activities at the hotel. It depends where you fall on the spectrum as to what is considered fair.

As you said hotel only, I assume it was a package booking - were you impacted outside of the hotel? Like did you miss trips because of the distance?

You also said less facilities - what facilities were missing? Did you have to pay to get what you were promised (like if you had paid for all inclusive but then ended up staying at bed and breakfast).

Basically - it comes to what you think is fair, but removing all feelings from the equation to determine if it’s fair or not.
