medical report for travel insurance after overseas accident

Unfortunately I had an accident overseas and broke a bone.

I went to the hospital twice abroad and my insurer has undertaken to pay the bills. Now I'm trying to claim for the expenses incurred as a result of the accident - having been told to submit them once I got home.

The problem is that the insurer now wants a medical report from my GP. This asks about my previous medical history and about the injury sustained. My problem is that I have had no interaction with my GP, I don't need further medical treatment or advice other than physio that I have arranged privately through my health insurer. I asked the GP receptionist about form completion and she said (correctly) they won't have a record of an injury.

Did the overseas facility not give you a discharge letter or something equivalent to hand on to your doctor? They'd normally give a brief set of bullets on the diagnosis and treatment so your primary physician can add it to your records.

Ultimately you will need to inform your GP of what happened so they can then complete the medical report which in part will be checking you properly declared any pre-existing conditions and if there is any link from them to what happened to you.

The hospital report said that I had a broken bone and to weight bear as tolerated. Plus a painkiller prescription.

Our surgery is very lax at adding notes from elsewhere to records. I had an operation at private hospital 2 years ago and 2 appointments at NHS urgent care centres that have never been added, I queried it at an appointment and was told they don’t have the staff resources. This does make a mockery of the insurer looking for pre-existing conditions, when anything outside the surgery’s own appointments don’t even get added to records.
