This policy has caused problems with non-American names. For example Vietnamese bank employee Phuc Dat Bich had to present his passport to Facebook before they would accept that this name was not 'false and misleading'.Life in the slow lane0 -
OK, a strict policy but enforcing it - not so much.
Lots of problems for them currently with gender self-reassignment (Steve is now known as Eve, etc.)0 -
I still don't understand this:
"Due to the nature of the forum, we are forced to use, as our nicknames, something that can identify us (I don't want to go into further details, but let's just say that someone could easily find out my real name, my employer and for many, their home address if they're on the public electoral roll)..."
(I don't do Faceache as I'm unwilling to be partly responsible for the collapse of western civilisation...)

OK, I'll explain further.
In my hobby, we're regulated by a Government agency (please don't push it - it's far too easy to start putting really personal details out there). We therefore have a "warrant" provided to do what we do.
As with all Government agencies, they hold a lot of details about you - who you are, DoB, home address and so on. If only it were as easy as Facebook to simply change your name and become someone else, but sadly, the Government love to double check who you are against your ID.
To be able to easily identify everyone, said agency provides us with a userid. To join this forum (which has become very toxic), you have to use your userid. Whilst like the electoral roll, you can choose to limit the data held, there is a minimum amount that's provided to the real world - your full name being one of them. For those of us who use professional networks in our jobs (like LinkedIn) it's easy to find us and start causing havoc.
Sadly, said hobby has a lot of professional (but retired) trolls. Who love to cause mayhem if they disagree with your point of view. It appears I upset the wrong people, despite not being particularly confrontational, but having an opinion.
