Police and cables across road.

I'm well aware of the chunky traffic survey cables that get nailed across single c/w roads from time to time, but today I came across something different, thinner cables laid in a perfunctory/temporary fashion across a dual c/w with police officers in attendance. Does anyone know what these are for please?

They used to be used for speed traps back in the early 2000s, don't think they are still in use.  They were common on the A9 with a post that the police car plugged in to but were a pretty permanent installation.
  • The cables across the road arent used for speed enforcement itself anymore, most often used by the Local Authority to judge the average speed of vehicles going across them, these figures then help decide where speed enforcement will go
