Splitting EDF Direct Debits into 2 separate DDs?

I am with EDF and currently pay one DD combined for both gas and electricity. I would like to split it - either separate DDs for gas and electricity, or simply divide it in half and have 2 DDs for the same amount. (Reason: My Santander account needs two DDs to get interest...)
EDF have told me (via WhatsApp) that this is not possible. Now, I remember when I was with EDF previously, I did have separate DDs for gas and electricity, so I am puzzled as to why they say it is not possible. Or did I simply get an 'Advisor' who didn't know?
Any experiences with this, or advice?
Alternatively, how easy is it likely to be to move my electricity (or gas) account to a different provider?
Thanks in advance

Hi,you could set up 2 DDs to EDF, name them gas and electricity, maybe vary amount on each a bit.Might have a problem with EDF if you try to half your existing DD.Switching should be easy, though no good deals just now, Octopus get a lot of good mentions on this board.0

@frugalmacdugal that won't work as the OP will only have one customer number with EDF on a dual fuel contract.
@FlossingMill the EDF adviser was correct, you'll have to change your supplier for one of the utilities.0 -
Hi,aye, though EDF will still get same monthly amount.OP said, "(Reason: My Santander account needs two DDs to get interest...)", so he really only wants to split the Santander DD side of things.

It would only work if the OP has two account numbers which will not be the case on a dual fuel contract.2 -
Move the easiest one to another supplier (Electricity).with the faster switching not done in 5 days.0
