I'm not sure where to ask this question and, if this is the wrong forum, would someone move it for me, please?

I received this email today and none of the details are mine.

Email address is from:  "account-security-noreply@accountprotection.microsoft.com"

xxxxxxxxxx@aim.com - the email came into my aol.co.uk email address inbox but is @ aim.com and not aol.co.uk.  I have a very old aol.co.uk email address which I rarely ever use.

Heading:  Microsoft account security notification

Dear Nguyen,     (I don't recognize or know this name at all)

Your account is set to close on 10/10/2023

Your account ba**j@hotmail.com is scheduled to be closed on 10/10/2023 due to account inactivity. Once your account is closed it will be deleted in accordance with the Microsoft Services Agreement.

If you want to keep your account, just sign in between now and 10/10/2023. All your files, data and info will be just as you left them until then.

Thanks,

The Microsoft account team"

I did not click to "learn more."

I logged in to my own Microsoft Account and it seems to be all right - and nothing to refer to this person called Nguyen.  I have never at any time had a Hotmail email address and I don't know this  "ba**j@hotmail.com" email address at all.

Should I be worried about this or can anyone suggest what, if any, action I should take, please?

The email address in the email from Microsoft is a "no reply" one.

Thank you.

Probably a scam, so you were wise not to click the link

  • I appreciate your reply, pete-20-11.  I have put it in the Junk Folder.  It's strange how they managed to get the odd (xxxxxxxxxx@aim.com) email to come into my rarely used xxx@aol.co.uk address.  As you say - a scam.    Thanks very much.
