I don't think the OP is coming back...but I hope they've at least read and taken on board the advice given.
But probably not, due to family pressure. How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)0 -
Be careful here. I would want to know why, how, they managed to get themselves into debt. Who is he in debt to? £3K is not a lot to be in debt by and be unable to sort it out,.I am wondering if there is a much bigger problem beneath ie gambling, out of control spending by themselves/or spouse, have they borrowed from someone else and need to pay it back pronto? Only lend it, if you can afford to give it away as a gift.0

Sounds like it has red flags all over it. How close is this family member? Not sure I could part ways with £3k unless I knew 100% I would be getting it back.0

Give what you can afford to lose.
They will be happy with you when you lend, time to pay back can become their enemy.
Don't do it.0 -
I would think it is water under the bridge by now.
The OP asked in August and has not logged on since August.1 -
I lent my TWIN SISTER £300. She got a tatto (costing at least that at few weeks later)
Took nearly 2 years to get it back.

If it's your child then okay.
If it's your parent, sibling then if you are comfortable enough to loose the money.
Any one else no.-1
