Chip uses a passcode. Specific for the app, not the phone unlock code. Nowhere near as secure as proper banking apps where they use you account credentials. But better than say Tandem.

That's not correct. Anyone with physical possession of your device can bypass the code. It offers zero protection against a malicious actor. I don't even bother with it now I know how easy it is to get around it. Chip and Tandem are equally poor in that regard.

I expect you're right. However a code that can be disabled by someone who knows how, is still better than getting access to my account just by clicking the icon.

It puts it on the same level as Tandem, or just below, as both have a security measure that is trivially bypassed. One using biometrics and the other using a PIN. Also, neither measure prevents someone from installing the app on another device and logging in without the account owners knowledge. All they need is a brief spell of access to the user's phone. If you use either savings provider, the physical security of your phone is paramount.

If someone managed to get into ones Tandem account what is the worst that could happen?

It really depends on the circumstances and your relationship with the person that gets in. It would be rather similar to leaving a paper bank statement lying around. A problem if you want to keep your account balance, transaction history etc private. If it was just an opportunistic phone snatch, then through the app, they now know your name, address, employment status, income band and Tandem savings balance and full transaction history, so could make an informed choice whether to act on that information or pass it on to others who may be interested. If it was the soon to be ex-wife, and you'd been pleading poor, the consequences could be far worse :p

This thread seems to be split between people not caring if others get access to their Tandem App, because they can only transfer money between it and the linked account(s), and people who want to add extra PIN numbers to SIMs etc.

I just think Tandem should have better security.

I'd settle for a higher rate. At the moment others can only see what money I used to hold with Tandem.

Both Chip and Tandem are beaten by Santander.

Indeed, that's where my money has moved.
